Young People Get Active For Kids At Westmead
  11/8/2006

Young Unity has begun a campaign to encourage young people to get active in sports, while introducing young people to, and encouraging their participation in community work. "We are also providing young people an opportunity to gain leadership and management skills,"said Willis Phong, the President of Young Unity.

The first event will be held on the 12th August at Auburn Basketball Centre from 9 ¡V 5pm. It is expected that over 80 players will compete for the Young Unity All-Stars Cup. 100% of net proceeds of the day will be given to assist the sick and injured children at Westmead Hospital. "We hope that others can also support Children at Westmead Hospital by making a donation on the day,"said Willis.

Keith Khao, the chairman for this event stated, "basketball is a sport that everyone loves; people compete and make friends on the day, and come together for this great charitable cause".

There has been much support for this event from community leaders. Supporting the day will be, Hon. Dr Peter Wong AM MLC; Deputy Mayor of Auburn, Le Lam; Deputy Mayor of Kogarah, Annie Tang, Auburn local councilor, Jack Au.

"This is a great effort by young people to assist other kids who are undergoing difficult medical treatments, and I am proud to support this initiative," said The Hon. Dr Peter Wong.

"It is excellent to see active healthy young people doing community work for the Children at Westmead Hospital. I am sure that everyone will enjoy the day, meet new people, and continue to grow our communities sense of pride and achievement through giving to such a valuable and worthy cause," said Le Lam Deputy Mayor of Auburn.

We invite the community to join us at Auburn Basketball Centre for a day of exciting basketball action and supporting the Children at Westmead Hospital.
