NSW Acting Premier John Hatzistergos congratulated Spain on their historic World Cup win this morning and praised Sydney fans for making the FIFA Fan Fest a huge success.

"The atmosphere at the International FIFA Fan Fest in Darling Harbour this morning was fantastic,"Mr Hatzistergos said.

"I want to congratulate not only Spain and the Spanish fans for an historic World Cup win, but every one of the half a million football fans that braved the early mornings to support their teams over the past 31 days - their behaviour has been exemplary.

"On behalf of the Premier and the NSW Government, I also want to give special thanks to the organisers, the staff and volunteers, and the police for helping to make Sydney's first official FIFA Fan Fest a huge success."

The Acting Premier said over the past four weeks, more than 500,000 people have enjoyed the daily activities, nightly entertainment and live matches at the Sydney International FIFA Fan Fest.
