The Board of the Asian Australian Artists Association inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Aaron Seeto to the position of Director of Gallery 4A - the Asia Australia Arts Centre. This position has been funded by the NSW Government through Arts NSW with the generous support of our Patrons.
Daniel Droga, the new President of the Asian Australian Artists Association announced the appointment today. Mr Droga commented, "Aaron Seeto brings to the organization a great wealth of knowledge of contemporary art in Australia and from the region and an innovative approach to exhibition making. These are ideal credentials as we take Gallery 4A into the future."
"Gallery 4A has a very important place within the Australian art world," says Mr Seeto, "it has helped to forge an important dialogue and discussion within the Asia-Pacific region amongst artists, curators, writers and the general public. For a small non-profit organisation to achieve this is remarkable. As Gallery Director I look forward to being able to build upon the important legacy of the organisation as well as to present new discussions representative of the networks and relationships that define our place in the world."
Mr Seeto is a Sydney-based artist/curator who has developed major national and international focussed exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney (Primavera, 2006) and Campbelltown Arts Centre (News from Islands 2007). In 2006 he was a resident at the International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York City. He was the Curator at the Asia-Australia Arts Centre between 2001-2004 and is a regular writer and commentator on contemporary art in Australia. Mr Seeto will begin formally as Director of Gallery 4A from January 14 2008.

The Asian Australian Artists Association is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to promote greater understanding of diverse cultures through the arts. 4A has developed a unique approach to addressing Australia¡¦s cultural diversity. Since its inception in 1997, Gallery 4A has grown from a very small space in Sussex Street to the current Asia-Australia Arts Centre located in the heart of Chinatown in a historic building provided by the City of Sydney.
