his year 620 images were entered from 366 artists who photographed original and contemporary statements about Sydney Life. Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said; "the images capture the enormous possibilities for life and leisure in our city."

Twenty-six images have been selected to express the landscape, community and eccentricities of Sydney Life for the city's favourite annual photographic exhibition in Hyde Park.

Sydney Life is a highlight of the annual Art & About visual public arts festival, from 2 ¡V 21 October 2007.

The striking images will be blown up to bed sheet size and displayed along the leafy central walkway of Hyde Park North.

The collection includes: Elvis look-alikes at the races, a T-rex skeleton seeking prey at the Sydney Museum, a Maroubra jelly wrestling pit, an elderly man watching as the ANZAC Day parade streams past, a steamy summer day on Manly beach, and a young family enjoying the warmth of a fire in their Turella backyard.

Sandy Edwards (Curator, Sydney Life), Christine Morrow (Curator, MCA) and Bec Dean (Curator, Australian Centre for Photography) are the distinguished panel who judged the photographs for this year.

Curator Sandy Edwards said; "The judges were spoilt for choice. It is a truly democratic exhibition, featuring emerging and established artists from across the spectrum, art, documentary and commercial, alongside news photographers trained in making potent statements."

"These images are particularly arresting, with much to say about where we are at as a society and what we care about," Ms Edwards said.

Sydney Life finalists will join Ms Edwards for two free curatorial tours on Saturday 13 and 20 October from 1pm. To book a place phone 02 9265 9917.

The works are in the running to win the $10 000 prize, sponsored by AMP Capital Investors, which will be awarded at the launch of Art & About at Circular Quay on Friday October 5.

New this year is the People's Choice Award; the winner of which will receive $3000 worth of Fujifilm products of their choice. Visitors to the exhibition will be able vote at the information booth in Hyde Park, and go into the draw to win a camera worth $500.
