Your kua number determines the best Directions which you should face while doing the most fundamental things - for example, you should sleep with your head pointing to your most auspicious Direction. The Eight Aspirational locations remain the same, whatever your kua number, but it is important to orientate your chair and the head of your bed to correspond with one of your individual auspicious Directions.

Calculate your Kua number and your local best Directions

To determine your Best Directions (for sleep, study and eating), it is necessary to calculate your kua number using the following steps:

1. If you are born on between the 1st January and 20th February, then you will have to check the date on which the Chinese New Year fell in the year of your birth. Otherwise proceed immediately to step 2.

If you were born before Chinese New Year, then subtract one from the year of your birth. For instance, if you were born on 6th February 1964 (when Chinese New Year fell on 13th February) you should count your birth year as 1963.

2. Take the last two digits of your year of birth and add them together. For example, if you were born in 1974, add 7 and 4 to give 11. If the results is greater than 9, add the digits together, eg 1+1 = 2.

3. If you are a male, subtract this answer from 10, eg. 10-2 = 8. If you are female, add 5 to the number produced in step 2, eg. 2+5 = 7.

4. If the number is bigger than 9 add the numbers together again.

5. If the answer is 5 and you are male, use kua number 2. If you are female and the answer is 5, use kua number 8.

6. The result is your kua number. Now use this kua number to find your Best Direction.
