What is Ch'i?
Ch'i (pronounced 'chee') is the invisible energy that surrounds us and is the basis of feng shui. Some regard it as the life force or the essence of life.

If Ch'i flows well and accumulates, you have good feng shui, but if it flows too quickly, or if it stagnates, you have poor feng shui.

Feng Shui attempts to create a flow of positive energy in a building by careful arrangement of the rooms and their contents. If the ch'i can flow smoothly around a building, it's occupants will be healthy, wealthy and wise. But if it becomes blocked, ill health and ill fortune will follow. Whether the flow of ch'i is negative or positive depends on the shape of the landscape or buildings the energy encounters as it moves through: sharp angles make it negative, smooth curves and it's positive.
